William Newton is a critic, commentator, and public speaker with a wide variety of interests in the art world. He is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, the University of Notre Dame Law School, and Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. He lives in Washington, D.C.
From 2022 to 2025, he wrote about art for the print and digital editions of Spectator World, the American edition of the British magazine The Spectator. Previously, he served as an art critic for the online magazine The Federalist from 2015 to 2022. As a public speaker, he has addressed academic, professional, and religious institutions around the U.S. He has also appeared as a guest or co-host on various podcasts.
When not adding to his somewhat unwieldy art collection, he is often to be found planning his next sojourn in Spain.
